Healthy Teeth

BRUSH, BRUSH, BRUSH AND FLOSS

Ever since I can remember, I have always been told to brush my teeth by my parents so that I don’t get holes in my teeth. So, imagine my surprise when I heard in 1st yr dental school that brushing my teeth and gum would prevent gum disease… and not eating sugary, sticky food would prevent the holes in the teeth.

I have never even heard of gum disease in my life. Since then, I have to say that my passion has been about dental health. True, I do feel satisfied with doing a large case of crowns and implants but I truly believe that if we can start from young and prevent those holes in the mouths and keeping the gum healthy, I would compare it to keeping the foundation of a house in good condition. There is no point in renovating a house and make it beautiful but not checking whether the foundation is good… The house would eventually collapse. In dental terms, there is no point if you place expensive bridges and crowns and implants if the gum and bone holding the crown is not healthy.

So, I can not stress enough how important it is to take care of your gums from a young age with brushing and flossing AND getting the 6 mthly scale and clean and check up to prevent major expensive treatment to be needed later in life
